Long serving Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Friday night sent a congratulatory message to President Uhuru Kenyatta following his re-election.
Uhuru won the August 8 presidential election after securing 8,203,290 votes beating his closest challenger Raila Odinga who managed to harvest 6,762,224.
“On behalf of the government and the people of Uganda, and as current chairperson of the East African Community, I would like to extend congratulations to your Excellency upon your re-election as president of the republic of Kenya,” the one-page message read.
“Your re-election is clear testimony of the trust you have earned from the people of Kenya and appreciation of efforts you have made towards development of your country and the region for the last five years.”
“As you embark on your new term of office, I am confident that you will continue with these efforts and the important task of promoting the unity and development of your people.”
He said under Uhuru’s presidency, Kenya has continued being a key regional economic, peace and security partner.
Museveni, who has served as president for the last 31 years after ousting then President the late Idi Amin Dada attended Uhuru’s swearing in ceremony after he won the 2013 general election.
