The Ugandan High Commissioner to Kenya Phibby Otaara has called for concerted efforts in addressing the influx of illegal alcohol from the country into the Kenyan markets.

This follows growing concerns about the quality of alcoholic drinks from the neighboring country.Uasin Gishu County has been the most hit by the illegal liquor most of which are packed in sachets.But speaking in Eldoret town during a Kenya – Uganda cross border trade fair, Amb. Otaara said both countries need to take actions in curtailing the illegal substances supply.“I want to caution those engaging in these illegal brew business through the borders of Kenya -Uganda they will soon face the full force of the law,” she said.The Ugandan ambassador further asked both authorities in Kenya and Uganda to ensure all those involved in alcoholic drinks are inspected and licensed to protect locals from harmful products.“We have heard many health deathtraps caused by the illicit liquors and the majority of people affected are the younger generation’” she said.The county government of Uasin Gishu has been battling with the increasing illicit alcohol allegedly from Uganda but the ambassador says devolved units in the region should ensure all those involved are arrested and prosecuted.
