Two Ugandans charged with drug trafficking will languish in prison until their case is heard after they were denied bail for being a flight risk. Peter Luhombe, 35, and Joseph Kizito, 38, were allegedly arrested with four sacks of bhang at Salgaa Market in Molo Sub County on Sunday following a tip off from members of the public. On Monday, the prosecution told Resident Magistrate James Mwaniki that the suspects were driving a private car with foreign number plates in which the illegal drugs were stuffed. The magistrate declined to release them on bond or cash bail arguing that they were foreigners and that they were likely to flee the country to escape facing the law over the drug trafficking charges. “The prosecution has proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused persons are likely to evade justice in this court given the fact that they are foreigners with no permanent residence in Kenya. I, therefore, agree with the prosecution that the accused persons should not be granted cash bond or bail and order that they be remanded until the hearing of the case,” the magistrate ordered. The case will be heard on June 19.
