A Ugandan citizen has been fined Sh50,000 or six-month jail term by at a Machakos court for being in Kenya unlawfully.

Herbert Manirakizah was charged before principal magistrate Nyaga Ireri on Tuesday and he pleaded guilty to the charges. He said that he had come to Kenya to do business.

According to police reports, the accused was arrested at Yatta township over the weekend, and interrogations revealed  that he was from Uganda.

The police report also indicated that he was requested to produce documents that showed he was legally in the country but they were not valid as they had already expired.

The accused told the court the business he was doing was not so much profitable and therefore had no enough money to renew his passport or to go back to his country.

The court directed that after paying the fine or serving the jail term he be taken back to Uganda.
