Machakos county Deputy governor Bernard Kiala has postponed the "Ugatuzi Na Kiala" event that was scheduled for Saturday at Masinga "due to the escalating adverse political situation in the country."
In a Facebook post published on Deputy governor's official page on Thursday, Kiala said he suspended the event in solidarity with the Cord legislators who are currently held at Pangani police station over hate speech.
"Due to the escalating adverse political situation in the country, and standing in solidarity with Senator Muthama and the other Cord leaders detained by the police, the June 18th, # UgatuziNaKiala launch at Masinga has been postponed until further notice," Kiala said.
"When injustice continues, resistance becomes a duty," he added.
According to Kiala, "Ugatuzi Na Kiala" is a civic education program aimed at educating the people of Machakos county about devolution through self governance and public participation.
