National Churches Council of Kenya (NCCK), Lower Eastern region chairman Joseph Mutungi has praised the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Mutungi said the duo's handshake has healed the country from the strenuous 2017 elections.
Addressing the press at ABC Bomani Church in Machakos town on Wednesday, Mutungi said Kenyans have been able to live in harmony since the handshake took place.
"We thank God for the handshake and we appreciate it since it has enabled peace to prevail in the country and the country is recovering from the election," Mutungi said.
Mutungi urged the elected and appointed leaders in both national and county governments to focus on satisfying the needs of the people.
He said it's time politicians desist from politicking and fulfill the promises made during campaigns since every leader will be held accountable over his tenure after five years.
" Politics and campaigns are over and every leader should see the clock is ticking, focus on implementing existing plans and policy papers thus delivering to the electorates since that's what you were elected to do," Mutungi said.
Mutungi spoke after the completion of a three-day regional conference that had brought together more than a hundred delegates from the region.
