Kwale Human Rights Network coordinator George Jaramba has faulted the government for issuing identification cards to the Makonde community during the electioneering period.

Jaramba acc used the government of taking advantage of the community for political reasons.

“We have achieved what we fought for but we see a lot of politics at play because the issuance of IDs coincides with voter registration,” said Jaramba.

However, he pointed out that members of the community will vote wisely in the forth coming general poll.

“We are not supporting any political party...We ask the Makonde to register in large numbers so they can exercise their democratic right like other Kenyans,” said Jaramba, as quoted by The Star.

President Uhuru Kenyatta issued a directive in October last year for all eligible members from the community to be given ID’s but the deadline was never met.

The Head of State was scheduled to issue members of the community living in Kwale County with IDs today (Tuesday).
