The head of state, who is seeking his second term, admitted that the remaining nine weeks to the election require hard work and sacrifice if at all he has to retain his post when that time comes.
Uhuru, who spoke during an exclusive interview with Standard, said that he is confident that he will beat Raila but reminded his supporters that he is not complacent. “Although I am confident, believe me, I am not complacent. I am an optimist by nature and I believe Kenya’s best days lie ahead,” Uhuru said.
When asked whether Raila’s candidature is a threat on his part, Uhuru said that if he refuses then his opponents and supporters will take it as complacency, which he is not ready to deal with as we head to the August general elections.
“If I say I am not, I would be accused of complacency,” he added. The President, however, said that opposition is a team of leaders who are hungry for power. Uhuru exuded confidence that he will be re-elected because of his performance scoreboard.
