President Uhuru Kenyatta has agreed to hold talks with NASA leader Raila Odinga to end the escalating political heat in the country.
The agreement was arrived at after negotiations were held by foreign envoys in a bid to end a looming political crisis in the country.
However, the National Super Alliance has issued demands Uhuru must first meet before they engage in any meaningful talks.
NASA told diplomats in a meeting at Raila’s Capitol Hill that they were similarly neither interested in a coalition government nor other forms of power-sharing.
“We demanded that any meeting must be centered on electoral justice for meaningful negotiations to take place between Jubilee and NASA,” said one of the leaders who attended the meeting.
Foreign diplomats in the talks were lead by US ambassador Robert Godec and UK High Commissioner Nic Hailey while the NASA team was spearheaded by Raila and co-principal Musalia Mudavadi, with Kitutu Chache MP Richard Onyoka representing Moses Wetangula while Governor Kivutha Kibwana appeared for Kalonzo Musyoka.
According to sources, Raila remained silent during the talks with Mudavadi steering the NASA agenda.
Among their demands was that police admit and apologise that they killed NASA supporters.
“We also demanded that Kenyatta comes out and publicly apologises to Kenyans over the extra judicial killings by the police and also denounce their conduct,” he said.
Mudavadi also said that for any talks to start, Kenyatta must personally call Raila and set for an exclusive meeting between them before other leaders from either side can take part in the follow-up negotiations.
