Incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta took an early lead as results from Tuesday's national elections started to trickle in after the general.

This was a culmination of a hard-fought contest between two sons of two Kenya's founding fathers, Jomo Kenyatta and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.According to Reuters, Kenyatta had nearly 55 percent of the vote after 9,405 of 40,883 polling stations had reported results, the electoral commission website said at 9pm.Campaigning was marked by fiery rhetoric but public speeches were largely free of the ethnic hatred that had marred previous contests as the two scions of independent leaders faced off for the second time.Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) urges voters to wait calmly for results as they continue to trickle in."During this critical phase, we urge all Kenyans to exercise restraint as we await official results from the polling stations and indeed as they start trickling in," read an IEBC statement released on Tuesday evening.
