President Uhuru Kenyatta has today (Saturday) apologised to Kenyans and supporters of Jubilee party for what he called 'gross under-preparedness' during the party primaries held on Friday 21st April.
Addressing journalists at State House Nairobi, the head of state admitted that his party was caught flat-footed by the huge turn-out of voters.
He termed the numbers to be of 'general election magnitude'.
"We have subsequently cancelled the primaries country-wide," Kenyatta said.
He added that this includes counties that had successfully completed the exercise such as Murang'a, Kiambu and Nyandarua. The polls will be repeated in all counties.
The president added that the party had prepared to have a smooth polling process but ended up not have enough resources to conduct the process. He expressed confidence in the party's secritariat and said they would use this experience to organise better primaries in a yet to be released date.
The president reiterated that there are no preffered candidates in Jubilee and hence every candidate has a fair chance of competing.
