President Uhuru Kenyatta has now appointed Lilian Wanjiku Wahome to chair the Advisory Committee on the Power of Mercy.
Other members in the team are Isaiah Osugo (Commissioner of Prisons), Reverend Canon Rosemary Mbogo (Anglican Church of Kenya Provincial Secretary), Kennedy Kihara (Principal Administrative Secretary in the Office of the President), Maryanne Njau (Office of Attorney General), Evelyn Samba (Kenya National Commissioner on Human Rights (KNCHR) Commissioner), Florence Nyokabi Wachira (National Gender and Equality Commissioner - NGEC) and Oscar Warfar.
After the panel is constituted according to Section 8, "it will within seven days of its convening, by advertisement in at least two daily newspapers of national circulation, invite applications from persons who qualify for appointment as members of the Committee under Section 5(1)(b)" as reported by Capital News.
The Committee is a constitutional body with a core mandate to advise the President over exercising the power of mercy.
