Kisumu nominated MCA Lydia Odhiambo over the weekend challenged the president to address the insecurity menace, saying that anxiety affects the country negatively.

Speaking during a funeral in Nyakach, Odhiambo said that there was urgent need to address the issue before Kenya becomes a war zone.

“There are many things that contribute to the rising insecurity in the country today and there is need for the government to secure our borders and Kenyans,” she said.

“The president should know that his main objective is to secure our borders as it is within his mandate as the head of state.”

Her sentiments were echoed by Kisumu majority leader Samuel Ongow, who told our reporter on phone that the vices contributing to national insecurity should be addressed.

“Let the president address the corruption facing our country today as it is a major contributor to insecurity. Our security officers should also be paid well enough to curb corruption,” said Ongow.

The House leader said that insecurity scares away investors, who are the major contributors in the country’s economy as well as tourism where the country generates revenue from.

“Countries are issuing travel advisories to their citizens because Kenya is insecure. We are really wondering what Uhuru is doing about it.”

Kisumu City Residents Voice chairman Audi Ogada asked the government to curb the rising unemployment among the youth to prevent them from joining illegal militia groups such as the Mombasa Republican Council and Somali-based Al Shabaab.
