President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday wrapped up his meet-the-people tour of Nairobi by assuring Kenyans of their safety during and after the August polls.

Speaking at Dandora, Kayole, Njiru and Kasarani, President Kenyatta warned those who might be tempted to cause violence that they will meet the full force of the law.

“Those who think they can hide under the guise of the coming elections to cause violence should forget it because they will be dealt sternly according to the law,” President Kenyatta said.

He urged Kenyans to turn out in large numbers to vote without fear, saying their security is guaranteed under the Jubilee Administration.

The President also slammed the opposition for claiming that the Government intends to use the military to rig the elections, saying those are signs of people who have sensed defeat.

“We believe in democracy and we have traversed the country seeking votes from the electorate. The opposition should do the same instead of concentrating on baseless claims,” he said.

While addressing Jubilee supporters at Jacaranda grounds in Embakasi East Constituency, President Kenyatta told the opposition to stop interfering with the work of Acting Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Fred Matiang’i, who is working to ensure the safety of Kenyans.

President Kenyatta said the opposition was wrong to engage in attacks against the CS who is charged with ensuring security for all Kenyans.

“Stop dragging Government officers into the political contest. You are competing with us not Matiang’i. Let him do his job without interference,” President Kenyatta said.

Deputy President Ruto said the opposition should prepare for a defeat and stop using rigging claims and other excuses to cover up for their deficiencies.

“They wasted a lot of time deciding who their flag bearers will be. They squandered their time on court cases trying to delay the August polls but now the court has decided and Kenyans will go for elections on August 8,” the DP said.
