President Uhuru Kenyatta has reiterated his government commitment of introducing free secondary education in public schools come January 2018.
He said this will ensure all bright and needy students access quality education.
“From January next year no parent will pay even a single cent for their children’s education from form one to four. We want every student to access education no matter their financial background,” he said in Eldoret town, Thursday.
“This will also make transition from primary to secondary school possible for all KCPE candidates,” added President Kenyatta.
He, however, said that his government has waived examination fees for both private and public schools.
“The Treasury has set aside Sh4 billion for the examination fees, up from Sh3.2 billion last year. We want every child to enjoy the fruits of my government regardless whether in public or private school,” he noted.
President Kenyatta called upon school heads and their committee to manage funds in a transparent and accountable manner.
“As accounting officers in your institutions, you are fully responsible for management of the resources,” noted the president.
