Former Kitutu Masaba Member of Parliament Timothy Bosire has hit out at President Uhuru Kenyatta over his onslaught on Chief Justice David Maraga and the Supreme Court judges for overturning his August 8 election win.
Bosire, the ODM National Treasurer, said Uhuru should stop intimidating independent institutions as they draw their mandate from the Constitution.
"Instead of honourably disagreeing with the majority judgement, the President has resorted to insults and profiling of judges with the objective of intimidating, blackmailing and threatening them into submission," he wrote in an opinion piece published by The Star.
After the Supreme Court delivered its full judgement on Wednesday, Uhuru told off the court accusing it of subverting the will of the people.
"What happened is a judicial coup. A coup in Kenya has just been done by the four people in the Supreme Court," the President said.
Bosire said the President, as the symbol of national unity, should not lead in fighting independent institutions, but should protect them.
"Every time he (Uhuru) opens his mouth, the President preaches non-constitutionalism and disrespect for independent institutions," the former lawmaker said.
He added: "This is unacceptable and must not be tolerated under the 2010 constitutional order that Kenyans painfully fought for."
