A good number elderly population from both Nyamira and Kisii Counties could vote President Uhuru Kenyatta despite the region being an opposition stronghold.
Both Uhuru and Raila Odinga held intensive campaigns in the region with at least 800, 000 votes at stake and Jubilee team had identified the region as swing.
But exit polls in a number of polling stations shows that Uhuru is the most popular candidate among the elderly while Odinga is a favorite among youths.
“I have come to vote for the son of Kenyatta based on what he father did. He has also been close to us and even giving us some monthly stipends,” says Johnstone Mokaya, an 80-years old voter and Ritibo primary.
“The son of Jomo has been taking care of us and I have come to vote him. I am praying that he wins so that the elderly stipend is not suspended,” adds Jackline Onsomu, who votes at Nyaronge Primary in Nyamira.
In 2013, Odinga managed to scoop over 70 percent of votes while Uhuru took 25 percent, which was fundamental given the constitution minimums.
