Speaking at Kibabii University in Bungoma during the institution's inaugural graduation ceremony, the head of state said the government will not watch quality of education being compromised through the awarding of academic certificates to unmerited individuals.

"Students must meet minimum academic qualifications before being admitted in any university to avoid compromising the quality of education in the country,” he said.

“Let us not undermine the education standards in our universities by rushing to award some students university papers without following proper procedures,”he added.

His warning comes barely a week after Education CS Fred Matiangi also put on notice such universities saying they risk having their charters revoked if they engage in such malpractice.

Uhuru further challenged universities to channel the funds they get from self sponsored students towards research programs.
