President Uhuru Kenyatta has said that government officials who will be caught asking for bribes in order to issue Identification Cards will be prosecuted.
Speaking during tour of Central Kenya to mobilize voter registration, Uhuru stated that every Kenyan had a right to receive an ID as long he had attained the required age.
"An ID essential for every Kenyan who has attained the age. Action will be taken against anybody who will be found asking for bribes in oder to issue IDs," said Uhuru.
He added that village elders and chief's will assist in the distribution of IDs in villages.
"The National Registration Bureau has expedited the process of issuing IDs. Chiefs are government workers and must take the IDs to the actual applicants. They know everybody in the village," added Uhuru.
The Head of State had earlier stated that ID cards will be processed within three days in order to facilitate voter registration.
