President Uhuru Kenyatta has hinted at negotiating with Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking on Thursday shortly after casting his vote at Mutomo Primary School in Gatundu, the Head of State said that as a responsible leader he may reach out to Mr Odinga.

Uhuru argued that the move is geared to unifying the country after a hotly contested political season.

“As a responsible leader you must reach out and that is my intention,” he remarked.

He further observed that the country is grappling with deep rooted ethnicity.

Uhuru was accompanied by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and his mother Mama Ngina Kenyatta, who also cast their votes at the constituency.

There have been calls from various quarters asking Uhuru to negotiate with Mr Odinga to end the current political stalemate.

Earlier, Deputy President William Ruto suggested that top Jubilee leadership will only dialogue with the Opposition after the Thursday polls.
