President Uhuru Kenyatta has cut NASA Presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga’s lead in the race for Kilifi County votes to less than 20 per cent according to the latest opinion poll by the Star Newspaper.

According to the poll survey which was administrated between May 3-14 across 28 counties, where 3,430 respondents were interviewed, Uhuru has seen his support rise to 42 per cent in the populous Kilifi County. This will not be good news for the ODM leader who is keen to keep his traditional support bases intact ahead of the bruising August 8 battle. At the same time, the news will be welcomed by Jubilee Party leaders who have made numerous trips to the region in the past few months in a bid to swing the county in their favour.During the 2013 March 4 elections, Raila garnered 182,768 votes which translates to 84 per cent in in Kilifi with his nearest challenger Uhuru Kenyatta getting 23,386 votes which translates to just 10.3 per cent.In the 2013 polls, save for four, all the other 50 MCAs were elected on an ODM ticket. But Uhuru's TNA did not go empty-handed as Harrison Kombe clinched the Magarini MP seat. However, the narrative may change in 2017 considering Jubilee's spirited campaigns to woo the region into the ruling party. For Raila, he may be forced to go back to the drawing board strategizing on how to upset the status quo lest the over 600,000 votes in the county end up being shared evenly.
