A fired up president Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday termed Supreme Court judges ‘Wakora’, a term that is loosely translated in English to ‘thugs’ following nullification of his victory.
In unlikely decision, the first of its kind in Africa and the third in the world, Kenyan Supreme Court declared election of a sitting president ‘null and void’.
And in a quick rejoinder at Burma market, Uhuru accused the judges of making ‘irregular’ decisions that subverts will of the majority.
“Our democracy cannot be held at ransom by six people led by David Maraga. We cannot be intimidated and the will of people must be restored,” he said adding that he won fairly.
Uhuru further said: “Those thugs must know that people’s power is strong than courts. I will deal with them once we are through with elections.”
It is these remarks that have led to sharp criticism from various quarters including from opposition team and Magistrates and judges body.
At Kisii where CJ come from, residents poured in streets of both Kisii and Nyamira town to defend Kenya’s second CJ under the new constitution.
