President Uhuru Kenyatta commissioned new medical equipment at Kakamega County Hospital. He said this was in line with Jubilee government's vision of affordable, state-of-the-art health-care countrywide.
For the first time in Kenya’s history, Uhuru said no one in Kakamega County needs to travel long distances seeking referral services, now that the facility was fully operational.
During his tour of Western region, Uhuru also launched upgrade works of the Kakamega-Navokholo-Musikoma road to bitumen standards and addressed residents of Navokholo in Kakamega County.
"The projects we are launching and commissioning in Western Kenya are worth billions of shillings and they will go a long way in stimulating the local economy and providing jobs especially for the youth,'' Uhuru said Thursday.
Flanked by his deputy William Ruto, host governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka, Uhuru urged residents of Kakamega to reject politicians who preach tribalism.
He said tribalism breeds hatred and disunity which retards development.
"Our opponents should go slow and let us compete on ideas and policies instead of tribalism. The politics of tribalism are no longer viable in modern Kenya.''
He added: "For us in Jubilee, our actions and development record are there for all to see. Under Jubilee, Kenya is coming together as one people not as a divided nation.''
