President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday January 26 confirmed that his choice for the Nakuru county Speaker was former Subukia MP Nelson Gaichuhie.
On August last year Jubilee MCAs had been hosted to State House by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.
The two told the MCAs to make sure they elect as County Speakers people who subscribe to the party ideals.
When Nakuru MCAs returned home, word spread like bushfire that Nelson gaichuhie was the president's golden boy in the race.
Gaichuhie, Joseph Malinda and Joel Maina Kairu were the front runners in the seat.
But they say politics is a dirty game, Gaichuhie's popularity did not last.
That he was the president's choice was treated as a propaganda he had crafted to blackmail the MCAs.
A politician who wanted to control the assembly for having an ally for a Speaker hatched a plan to shortchange the president's 'project'.
With deep pockets, facilitated by a loaded businessman, the politician knew cash handouts would easily influence the MCAs.The first strategy was to prevail Joseph Malinda to pull out of the race.
That was fixed and Malinda quit.
Sources then said up to 45 MCAs were then bought off the shelves and hidden in a hotel in Nakuru, bundles of cash dished out and their phones confiscated and switched off.
They were then dispatched the morning of electing the Speaker.
That is how Gaichuhie received a humiliating defeat. He garnered 14 votes against Maina Kairu's 62 votes.
Njeri Karigu received two votes.
But Uhuru had a come back for his 'boy', he has now been placed at the centre of money.
The new position given to Gaichuhie seems like a message to those who plotted against his downfall in the Speaker's race.
