Lamu Jubilee governor aspirant Fahim Twaha has received a major boost as he seeks to dethrone the incumbent, Governor Issa Timamy.

This comes after PNU governor hopeful Eliud Ndung’u Kinuthia withdrew from the race and pledged to back Twaha. With less than two months to the August General elections, the change of tune by the PNU candidate is likely to complicate matters for Timamy, who is defending his seat.Kinuthia said he was requested by President Uhuru Kenyatta to step down in favour of Twaha. He assured Twaha that he will pitch tents in different parts of the county to ensure that he becomes the next Lamu county boss.He further said he has no doubt his running mate James Mwangi and supporters will accord Twaha the support he needs to beat Timamy, adding the he consulted before making the move.“The president called me and we talked for about 20 minutes. He asked me to step down and instead support Fahim Twaha of Jubilee in return for a nice job if Jubilee wins the elections. After much consultation with my people, I accepted the offer and have stepped down in favour of Twaha,” said Kinuthia, as quoted by Baraka FM.
