He said Opposition leaders led by Raila Odinga were smearing his development achievements with lies in a desperate attempt to hoodwink Kenyans.

“In Jubilee we are action-oriented leaders and we are not people of empty talk. That is why we have come back here to begin the construction of this road,” he said.

He said Raila and the other Opposition leaders have nothing to show for the time they served in government. The President, who was speaking in Witu town when he commissioned the tarmacking of the Sh10.8 billion Garsen-Witu-Lamu road, said the country has made tremendous progress in the last four years he has been in power compared to the previous administrations.

“These people have refused to acknowledge the development that we have initiated and are going round spreading propaganda meant to discredit our achievements,” he said.

He said the tarmacking of the Garsen-Witu-Lamu road is historic as it would now open Lamu county to business and investment.

The construction of the 135 kilometres road project is expected to be completed in 2019. Uhuru urged Lamu residents to rally behind Jubilee during the August election to enable him to continue with implementation of development projects aimed at improving their lives.
