Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has accused the Jubilee government of delaying the hiring of the new IEBC  commissioners.

Kalonzo claims that the Uhuru Kenyatta led government is not serious in hiring of new IEBC commissioners as recommended by the Joint Parliamentary committee that was discussing the IEBC.

The Wiper leader states that the delay in hiring of the new commissioners will affect the 2017 general election preparations.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta should expedite on the hiring of new IEBC commissioners to avoid hitches in preparation for the 2017 elections,” he said on Monday.

The Cord co-principal indicated that a crisis could erupt if the new commissioners are not in office as recommended.

The Joint Parliamentary Committee on IEBC had recommended that the new commissioners be appointed b the end of this month (September).

Last week President Kenyatta assented to the Election Laws Amendment Bill of 2016 that provides for the hiring of new commissioners.

The President also assented to the Election Offenses Bill 2016 that bars party hopping among other election offences.

With barely a year left to the August 2017 general election, opposition leaders and stakeholders are piling pressure on the government to ensure proper preparedness in done to for fair and transparent 2017 general election.
