President Uhuru Kenyatta has refuted claims that he is plotting to rig the forthcoming general elections.
Speaking during a Jubilee Party rally over the weekend, the Head of State asserted his commitment to a free, fair and credible electoral process, adding that he would respect the will of the people regardless of the outcome.
“This is the first government that is serving a term that is less than five years. If we wanted to rig elections we would have started by demanding that we serve five years but we have accepted that because we want democracy to prevail,” he said.
He further warned the Judiciary against aiding the delay of the forthcoming polls.
“You cannot claim independence and use it to interfere with the functioning of the Executive and other arms of Government,” he said.
The Opposition coalition NASA leaders have been alleging a scheme by the Jubilee administration to interfere with the outcome of the August polls, linking state agencies to attempt to rig the polls.
