It has always been a routine, at least going by what has been done before, for the president to read from a script when addressing the nation during the National Prayer Breakfast.
That has always been part of the choreography of the annual event that is designed to present the country to the Almighty.
Even the president came to the event psychologically prepared that he was going to read a prepared speech but then he did the unthinkable after seeing how things were unfolding.
He threw away his statement and opted to address the nation off the cuff.
''It looks like I was the only one who was expecting to make a statement but given the way things have unfolded here today, I think my statement I will put aside,'' President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The move by the president on Thursday at the Safari Park hotel caused excitement in the auditorium as many had expected the president to deliver off the cuff remarks after reading from his prepared script.
Going by the reactions, it seems like it was not a bad idea after all.
