Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa.
A Jubilee Member of Parliament has said President Uhuru Kenyatta does not need anyone, including Deputy President William Ruto, to win Rift Valley votes.
Speaking on Citizen TV on Sunday evening, Kikuyu lawmaker Kimani Ichung’wa said Uhuru can campaign in the Rift Valley alone and convince the people to vote for him again.
Ichung’wa said that the President went personally to the people of the vote-rich Rift Valley and asked for votes in the run up to the 2013 general election.
"Uhuru Kenyatta does not need anybody to get votes in the Rift Valley, not even William Ruto. Even in 2013, Uhuru went directly to the people of Rift Valley and asked for votes and they voted for him," Ichungwa said.
The Jubilee MP also hit out at Kanu chairman Gideon Moi, saying he should stop undermining DP Ruto.
Ichung'wa told Gideon to stop thinking that he has the key to Rift Valley votes ahead of August 8 polls.
Kanu leaders last week announced they will back Uhuru's re-election bid.
The independence party leaders had in the past indicated that they will work with the Opposition NASA to remove Jubilee from power.
Analysts say the visit by Uhuru to Gideon's father, Daniel Moi, turned the tables.
