President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party will after all back former Kisii Senator Chris Obure to the senate speaker’s seat.
Earlier, former CIC chairman Charles Nyachae had been tipped to take over only for Jubilee to reportedly do last minute changes that would see the veteran politician win the seat owing to the majority of Jubilee members in the house.
The changes means Speaker Ekwe Ethuro could find himself in unfamiliar position after serving the pioneer senate for a period close to five years.
Nyachae failed to clinch the Kisii senatorial seat while Obure lost badly to Governor James Ongwae in the recently concluded elections.
At Gusii though, the two men managed to deliver for Jubilee team with Uhuru managing to win in Nyamira County, a zone that was known to be ODM stronghold.
On his part, Ethuro failed to deliver in Turkana County where Governor Josephat Nanok carried the day after delivering for Raila Odinga.
Also in the race include former National Assembly Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim, immediate outgoing Deputy Speaker Kembi Gitura and Nakuru Senator Kihika Kimani.
