Former Tigania MP and President Uhuru Kenyatta advisor on Education Kilemia Mwiria has said that he consulted the president before decamping to Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap Party (MCCP).
Speaking on Citizen TV on Thursday, Mwiria who is eyeing the Meru gubernatorial seat in the August 8 polls said that President Kenyatta endorsed his move to join Mutua’s party.
“I consulted with President Uhuru Kenyatta and he gave me the nod to join Governor Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap Party,” said Mwiria.
The former lawmaker dismissed claims of betraying President Kenyatta by join Mutua’s party.
Mwiria said that his decision to work with Mutua’s party was informed due to the high competition in Jubilee Party.
“I weighed my chances in Jubilee Party and opted to work with Mutua’s party that shares the same agenda with Jubilee,” he added.
The former MP exuded confidence of being elected as next Meru governor in the August 8 polls.
“The journey has started and I am confident that Meru people will endorse my candidature,” he said.
While receiving Mwiria to Maendeleo Chap Chap party on Thursday, Governor Mutua said that he expects more politicians to join his party ahead of the August polls.
“I am expecting one governor from Western, several MPs from Nairobi, Kajiado, Narok, and Mombasa and even more from Machakos to join Maendeleo Chap Chap,” he said.
