President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday failed to contribute money during a harambee at PCEA Kimunyu Church in Gatundu South.
He was presiding over the ceremony of the proposed Thiririka Presbytery office complex.
The president stated that donating towards the project would be illegal following the new electoral laws that came into effect on Sunday.
He promised though, that he would stand with the church members to see that the building is complete when the right time comes.
The IEBC regulations bars politicians from participating in any Harambee eight months prior to the General Elections.
According to the new law, those who defile it are at risk of being disqualified from contesting in the elections.
The head of state urged Kenyans who have not registered as voters to do so so as to exercise their democratic rights.
