President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday faulted the appointment of Dr Willy Mutunga as the Chief Justice five years ago.
The Head of State who was speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of Justice David Maraga as the new CJ, said that Kenya was not ready for a Chief Justice like Mutunga.
He faulted Mutunga's human rights activism as a major predicament to steering the judiciary in the right direction.
The Head of State said that it was a mistake to pick Mutunga due to his past activist-like tendencies.
CJ Maraga takes over from Mutunga who retired in June 2016.
