President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday hit out at Deputy President William Ruto’s allies over his handshake with opposition chief Raila Odinga.
Speaking in Embakasi during the issuance of title deeds to Nairobi residents, Uhuru said he is focused on uniting all Kenyans.
He said that is the reason he decided to make peace with Raila, because ‘he is also a Kenyan’.
“Some people are running around the country criticizing me and Raila over the handshake, but I want to tell them that Raila is a Kenyan. And my mission and that of our Jubilee party as we agreed with my deputy William is to bring all Kenyans together,” Uhuru said.
Ruto’s allies, led by senator Kipchumba Murkomen, have been criticizing the handshake saying it is a plot by Raila to redeem his political stature in readiness for 2022.
"Jubilee should be cautious so that Raila does not mess it up ahead of 2022," Kithure Kindiki, an ally of Ruto, said.
