President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday asked the newly appointed Chief Justice David Maraga to crack the whip on corruption cases before courts and bring to book individuals involved in the theft of public funds.
Uhuru at the same time freed 7,000 prisoners who were about to clear their sentences to create room for the corrupt officials.
"Now the new CJ can go for the big guys (who are corrupt). The space is there and there is enough beans for them to eat in there," said Uhuru as quoted by the Daily Nation.
He made the remarks in his Mashujaa Day speech during celebrations held in Machakos County.
This was the second national event to be held outside Nairobi after Madaraka Day celebrations which were held in Nakuru County.
He reiterated his government’s commitment to fighting the rampant corruption.
