President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election bid has received a major boost after being endorsed by former Tanzania Prime Minster Edward Lowassa. Mr Lowassa, who came to Kenya to attend the burial of former Interior cabinet secretary Joseph Nkaissery, said the Maasai people in Tanzania support President Kenyatta. “Chadema Party met and agreed to support President Kenyatta’s re-election bid because he has led Kenya well,” the former prime minister told Citizen TV.Lowassa called on Kenyans to maintain peace during the election period, warning the country not to go back to the post election violence of 2007/8. “I pray that Kenyans seek peace and not repeat the violence [witnessed in the 2007 election]. Peace has been the foundation of your success, let people look for peace in the ballot box and not outside of it,” he said. Lowassa lost the presidential content to President John Magufuli, a close friend of NASA flag bearer Raila Odinga.
