President Uhuru Kenyatta this morning at Eldoret State Lodge held talks with a delegation of leaders from Elgeyo/Marakwet and Nandi counties.

The delegation which comprised of members of county assemblies of Elgeyo Marakwet and Nandi was led by Governor’s Alex Tolgos (Elgeyo/Marakwet) and Stephen Sang (Nandi).

The President who was with the Deputy President William Ruto, thanked the leaders for organizing his tour of the region and ensuring large turnout of the residents.

He urged the Jubilee leaders to now take the campaigns to the next level of door to door, saying members of the county assemblies are conversant with the local politics and terrain and hence the need to work hard to ensure votes are cast on the polling day.

“We should not celebrate crowds and forget that what matters are the votes that are cast on the polling day. It’s one thing for wananchi to be happy and another to ensure they cast their votes,” said President Kenyatta.

The President told Jubilee leaders the remaining campaign period is crucial and therefore the need for them to work as a team to ensure Jubilee wins with a landslide.

“Our governors, members of parliament and senators are very important, however the most crucial people are the members of county assemblies because as foot soldiers they ensure the party wins all other seats,” said the President.

He urged the leaders to sensitize wananchi on the reason as to why there is need to vote Jubilee party candidates in all positions from MCA’s to the President.

“It’s not easy to lead a nation without the majority of party members. How can you move or negotiate your agenda in parliament without majority of your party members,” said President Kenyatta.

Nandi Governor Sang said Jubilee nominations in the region were free and fair and those who decided to be independent candidates did so because of selfish reasons.

“To us nominations were very free and fair and no individual can say that they were a sham,” said Governor Sang.

Other leaders in attendance were Governor Jackson Mandago of Uasin Gishu,Senators Kipchumba Murkomen, (Elgeyo Marakwet), Samson Cherargei (Nandi), Women Reps Dr. Tecla Tum, (Nandi) and Susan Chebet (Elgeyo/Marakwet).
