President Uhuru Kenyatta has described independence hero Tom Mboya as a ‘true patriot’ who served interests of all Kenyans.
It was the first trip by the Head of State to Mbita constituency which is represented by his fierce critic Millie Odhiambo.
And during the official launching of Mbita-Rusinga Bridge, Uhuru honoured Mboya who he also said was paramount to national cohesion and integration.
“When I was growing up, I heard of Mboya and for years now, he is remembered for tremendous duty he did when serving the nation.
“Particularly, he was a true patriot who worked hard to see all communities are living in harmony. He is dearly missed and we shall do all we can to ensure he remains in our hearts,” Uhuru said.
A powerful minister in Jomo Kenyatta’s government, Mboya was assassinated in the July of 1969 in what is commonly called Tom Mboya Street in Nairobi.
Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero is married to Susan Mboya, the daughter of Tom Mboya who was born in Kilimambogo by parents from Rusinga Island.
