President Uhuru Kenyatta has lauded the rise in the number of women joining the military.

Speaking during a pass out parade for 3,000 recruits at the Recruits Training School in Eldoret on Monday, Uhuru said many female recruits joined the training during this year’s intake.

‘The increment in the number of female recruits is a clear indication that our nation has decided to give equal opportunities to all people,’ he said.

Uhuru also pointed out that female soldiers should be applauded for their stunning performance as the best recruit overall was a female, Irene Kaleka.

She received an award from the president for being the best recruit all round.

He revealed that Kenyan military has done the country proud and commanded global respect. 

The Head of State said that the military has worked hard to ensure continued support in peace keeping missions through their participation in events that call for peace.

‘Our Kenya Defence Force personnel have made immense contribution to peace keeping missions and fought against terror. This has won respect from the United Nations and the Security Council. The KDF have worked to ensure that our boarders remain safe. As a Commander in Chief, I want to congratulate you for the good job,’ said Uhuru.
