In recent days, Deputy President William Ruto has been on the frying pan with politicians from the opposition and his Jubilee party more so from his Rift valley backyard and Central blaming him for all their failures to secure the party ticket in the April party primaries.
Now, furious politicians from the Rift are accusing President Uhuru Kenyatta for failing to protect Ruto over the accusation that he meddled with Jubilee nominations.
The MPs are amazed by Uhuru's silence on the public accusations made against his deputy and have even threatening him (Uhuru) to seek for his own supporters in Rift Valley if he can't defend Ruto. They are also planing a major political rally in Kericho dubbed 'Sosiot Declaration' to publicly express their frustration with the president.
"We feel the President is being selfish. He does not care about his Jubilee aspirants but wants his vote at all costs. We'll tell him if that is the case, let him come and look for his own vote in Kalenjin land. We will look for our votes," another governor aspirant told the Star.
Among the leaders on the 'Sosiot Declaration' agenda include fallen governors from Kalenjin areas others include Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago, Bomet's Joyce Laboso, Kericho's Paul Chepkwony and West Pokot's Simon Kachapin.
“We were all unanimous President Uhuru was not treating Ruto well, especially because, while Ruto spent sleepless nights sorting out issues during the bungled nominations, the President’s people have been busy accusing Ruto of all manner of things. This is unacceptable,” a governor at the meeting told the Star.
More painful to the Rift valley politicians is that Uhuru has remained suspiciously silent despite Central Kenya politicians publicly claiming DP Ruto rigged out some politicians to boost his 2022 presidential bid.
“This is the man who sorted out the problems. How is that he is now being blamed and his boss does not bother to defend him in public? This weekend we plan to tell the President very clearly that he must stand with Ruto through thick and thin," an MP aspirant from Nakuru county said.
