President Uhuru Kenyatta has termed Raila Odinga’s claims that the National Intelligent Service is being used by the Jubilee administration to rig elections absurd.
Uhuru said Odinga has already sensed defeat in the coming elections, while Deputy President William Ruto accused Odinga of creating friction in the country.
According to Odinga, the government has an unfair advantage in the registration of new voters, by engaging the services of NIS to tamper with the voter register to help the incumbent.
“Ati anasema tunatumia NIS ili kuiba kura, ati kuzunguka kwangu kuomba watu kujiandikisha ni kuiba kura. Hiyo siasa tuache, watu wakitaka tushindane, tushindane kwa sera wacha aambie wakenya wale atawafanyia (He is saying I'm using NIS to rig elections, I'm I rigging elections as I move around asking for votes? If they want a battle, let it be on policies and what he will do for Kenyans,” said the president, who was addressing Garissa locals.
Ruto on the other hand said the opposition is not ready for the elections, and accused them of trying to disrupt the next elections.
"Leo amesema kuwa wageni kutoka Egypt, sudan, Ethiopia will take part in voting during the elections, si inaonekana wazi kuwa hawa watu hawako tayari kwa uchaguzi, (He is saying there are locals from Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia who will take part in voting during the election, its clear that they are not ready for the elections,” said Ruto.
The leaders have been on a voter registration sensitization exercise in different areas.
