Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s claims that Dr. Fred Matiang’I is being used to rig elections have drawn sharp reactions from the Jubilee administration.
An agitated President Uhuru Kenyatta accused Odinga, of fighting Matiang'I, and challenged Odinga to face him (Kenyatta) and not his workers.
Uhuru appeared angered by a media report quoting the National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate as saying the CS had been harnessed by the Jubilee administration to influence the polls in his (Uhuru's) favour.
Speaking on his last day in the Coastal tour, Kenyatta claimed Odinga was hell bent in causing confusion about the August polls.
“Raila should stop fighting Matiang'i whose role is to ensure security in the country. I am the one competing against him, Matiang'i is a junior officer. He should face me. I do not know why he is fighting Matiangi,” Kenyatta said during a rally in Taveta.
The President and his entourage addressed Jubilee rallies in Taveta, Mwatate and Voi in Taita Taveta County, where he heaped praise on Jubilee Party candidates as well as recent defectors from the Opposition.
Uhuru was accompanied by Senator Dan Mwazo, who defected from ODM early this year and is now Jubilee's governor candidate, Taveta MP Naomi Shaban, County Woman Representative Joyce Lay and Jubilee's Senate candidate Lydia Haika.
He outlined the achievements he had made in the coastal region, saying he had managed to deliver on his promises despite the area overwhelmingly voting for the opposition in the last elections.
He further promised to end land problems in the area if re-elected, saying he had solved many of the resettling cases.
