State House has denied claims that President Uhuru Kenyatta intimidated Deputy President William Ruto in the video clip that has since gone viral online.
In the video, Uhuru is captured using demeaning words towards the DP in what Kenyans translated to warning on regular campaigns he does all the time.
"Na hii kijan yangu Ruto najua kila wikendi anatanga tanga kila pahali. Atakuwa anapitia hizi machorochoro. Akiona kuna kitu inaenda kona kona mwambie yeye."
It loosely translates to: " I know this young man Ruto is fond of roaming aimlessly around every weekend. If you see anything wrong just report to him."
And the remarks elicited sharp reactions on social media with a section of Kenyans accusing Uhuru of lacking 'respect' to his deputy.
But Digital Communications Director Dennis Itumbi said the president's statement was wrongly interpreted by a section of the media.
"The president basically meant that Ruto is always on the ground and that people should always share problems with him. He did not insult the DP and he said that on a lighter note."
