It was expected that he would have attended the debate after canceling a series of campaign rallies.

His main rival Raila Odinga used the opportunity to sell his candidature.

President Uhuru had a few weeks ago indicated that he would not attend the televised debate.

His camp had claimed that the president was not consulted in time.
