President Uhuru Kenyatta’s political stake in Gusii could be under real threat for the second time following a week of political stunts on Chief Justice David Maraga.

A host of youths were arrested and charged with treason when they allegedly went to streets in defense of Maraga and subsequently burning what is believed to be Uhuru’s effigy.

And the Kisii political class allied to opposition NASA has ganged up in defense of over seven youths who have been held for at least four days.

“We are checking of the charge sheet and demand answers why they were denied right for defense,” says lead counsel and Nyamira senator Okong’o Mogeni.

The former LSK chair adds:”It is wrong to act as if we are operating from a banana republic. The rule of law must be abided by all the time.”

Also expected to appear for the embattled youths is Borabu MP Ben Momanyi who has been an advocate of High Court for over two decades.

Senator Prof Sam Ong’eri of Kisii will lead a host of politicians among them ODM National treasure Timothy Bosire as the battle for Gusii votes takes another dimension.

On Friday, Jubilee MPs from Gusii prevailed upon President Uhuru Kenyatta to persuade Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu to drop a petition targeting removal of Maraga.
