Abuya’s remarks come few days after he openly backed current area MP Timothy Bosire who was recently subjected to four days police detention over alleged hate speech remarks.

In an exclusive phone interview with the reporter on Monday, Abuya faulted detention of five MPs affiliated with the opposition Cord and vocal University of Nairobi Student leader Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino.

“I have been following the political trends in our country and I am compelled to say that Kenyatta is slowly introducing autocracy to a democratic country. Dictatorship ended with KANU government and Kenya is now a free state where the rule of law is embraced,” he said.

“When I went through the charge sheet of Cord leaders and the student leaders (Owino), I got convinced that they were victims of circumstances. The real hate speech mongers are known and they were heard clearly in the media. It’s really bad to gag the opposition,” he added.

He also questioned the manner in which police officers handled Kenyans who were protesting against embattled electoral body IEBC in which at least six people were reportedly shot dead.

”A country governed by the rule of law cannot just watch innocent people exercising their democratic right dying. Our country is slowly being taken to 70s and 80s,” added Abuya, a renowned seven bearded sisters who were detained during President Daniel Moi regime in 80s for criticising his government.
