President Uhuru Kenyatta is back in the Coast as the scramble for the over 1.7 million votes in the region that is considered an opposition turf reaches fever pitch.

On his first day in the region, the President and his deputy William Ruto visited Lamu County where they highlighting the Jubilee’s government scorecard in the region that has suffered many years of marginalization.

While defending his development record in the region, the President said his administration has developed the region more than the past regimes.

"Lamu is now connected to the national grid, and thanks to the Jubilee administration, residents now have access to electricity," Uhuru said.

The President also revealed that plans are underway to tarmac the Witu-Lamu road in a bid to enhance transport in the region.

While speaking on the subsidization of maize floor, the President said his is a problem-solving administration that is keen to improve the lives of Kenyans.

Lamu County is considered a battleground in the 2017 Presidential election with NASA and Jubilee keen to sway the region into their sides.

Raila Odinga garnered 22,962 votes in the 2013 elections in Lamu County, beating his main rival Uhuru Kenyatta who polled 17,677 votes.
