Cord leaders have been invited for the Madaraka Day celebrations to be held at Afraha stadium in Nakuru today June 1.
On Tuesday President Uhuru Kenyatta asked the leaders to join him as he leads Kenyans in celebrating the day.
In a message posted on his official facebook page on Tuesday, Uhuru said that Cord leaders are welcomed to join him in the national celebrations.
Uhuru who met Cord leaders Raila Odinga and Moses Wetangula at a state Luncheon at State House on Tuesday is believed to have discussed other issues including the IEBC matter with the opposition leaders.
However, it is not clear on whether Cord leaders will attend the Madaraka day fete in Nakuru on Wednesday.
The opposition leaders had been planning for parallel celebrations at Uhuru Park in Nairobi.
On Monday, the government through spokesperson Erick Kiraithe had said that Cord will not use Uhuru Park or Nyayo stadium as venue for their rally.
Cord leader Raila Odinga, however, maintains that their planned rally at Uhuru Park on Wednesday is still on.
Odinga asked supporters to stream at Uhuru Park as early as 6am on Wednesday for the rally.
Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) on Tuesday asked the government to allow Cord to use the Uhuru Park Venue for their planned rally.
The commission officials who had earlier held a meeting with Raila said that it was unconstitutional for the government to bar Cord from holding their rally at Uhuru Park.
