Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula has labeled President Uhuru Kenyatta a 'dictator' who is keen to silence the opposition team.
Wetangula says Uhuru's recent threats to opposition leader Raila Odinga is an indication that he is not ready to embrace freedom of speech and association.
The Ford Kenya leader, who was speaking in his backyard, is keen to be appointed as opposition's presidential flag bearer in August.
"The president has lost focus and direction. He is keen to silence opposition through mere threats. We cannot be scared by unnecessary threats which cannot materialise," he said.
The former Foreign Affairs Minister added: "He is curtailing freedom of speech and association which is a constitutional provision. These are signs of dictatorship."
Last week, Kenyatta threatened to arrest opposition leader Raila Odinga on grounds that he is inciting Kenyans against his government.
Similar threats have been issued by Interior Cabinet secretary Joseph Nkaissery who on Saturday also chalenged opposition to rig elections.
